So as to end the wave of spamers we have had recently, I've set the group so that I have to approve members before they can join. We should discuss how to collectively manage this process at the next meeting. For the time being I will approve anyone who provides information about who they are and their interest in Cedar. Thanks!

I am wondering if we have to go to a membership approval process since we now seem to have spammers adding spam content to the forum area.

Hi Folks! I just wanted to let you know I will be missing teas and brunches until after the 20th of December -- I'm off to Sweden one week to co-lead a graduate workshop in feminist methodology and the next week to do a seminar with faculty, post-docs and anyone else on transdisciplinary practices and my stuff on TV and the web and reenactments (you know some of this). If I can convince folks to check out SL I may be on and off to show it around. But then again, maybe not! But I will see you whe…

I am really looking forward to a concert this Saturday morning at 8:30 am SLT (Pacific Time). I hope you mark your calendars to come out.
Akito Kuramoto is the avatar name of a young French physician who also happens to play violin wonderfully. He's been somewhat torn between music and medicine all his adult life and certainly plays at a level where it could have been his chosen career. He has played for 26 years of his 33 years on the planet and continues to play actively with amateur ensemble…

If you would rather use your avatar name here (the name that others may be more familiar with) you can edit your user name in the Edit Profile dialogue.

Somehow Music Island seems to have a great start on a Solstice Festival and I wondered if anyone else wanted to jump on the bandwagon in adding readings, art, concerts, activities either at Music Island or in your locations. I'm thinking particularly about Cadence's cafe, the Spinoza learning centre, or the sculpture garden but there may be others.
So far I have programmed: Dec. 19 the playing of the full Four Seasons by Vivaldi by Duo Appassionato, Dec. 20 "Seasons of the World"with Naftali...…

Hey there's a ton of great things going on around Cedar and the surrounding isles. Teas have been great. Loved Talon's presentation.
It would be ever so nice if people signed up for teas and brunches a bit ahead so we could come prepared to think about the subject material, maybe even read a bit in advance?

Cedar Island feels like I imagine Tanglewood must be like. A place to clear my head for big thoughts. Looking forward to sharing.

Well I missed the weekly Tea tonight to go see the documentary Second Skin -- which I thought was going to have material on Second Life. Very little. Although billed as being about virtual worlds, it was really about folks caught up in gaming, mostly in World of Warcraft and Everquest. Because the filmmakers -- who where there at AFI, and local folks who grew up in Silver Spring MD -- wanted to focus on "good stories" they tended to concentrate on online romance and addiction. I don't want to mi…
