Friends and Colleagues,
Thank you for your participation in the Cedar Playing Creatively event at SL6B hosted by Ludo Merit on June 23 for our tea time. I have included here a copy of the notecard I used to organize our discussion. I will post an edited transcript of the chat if participants grant their permission to do so.

Cedar Playing Creatively Cedar Tea, June 23, 2009

Ludo Merit has created this SL6B build which allows for the exploration of the Hero Walk and for SL projects that demonstrate elements of “serious play”. Today we will discuss how the Cedar Island Community might be considered Play.

Consider the first article in the Cedar Island Charter:

Cedar Island is a small, quiet, Second Life community for people who are involved in research or creative projects and are interested in sharing and discussing their work. To be a resident you must be involved in a learning project and be willing to share your work with others.

Let’s now look at a series of questions.

Is it Play?

See Katie (King) Fenstalker; Gregory Bateson, et al.
A quote regarding Quest to Learn, a new NYC school based on game play.

“Games work as rule-based learning systems, creating worlds in which players actively participate, use strategic thinking to make choices, solve complex problems, seek content knowledge, receive constant feedback, and consider the point of view of others….”
